Our teacher is Miss Galpin and our teaching assistant is Mrs Higham.
This is Sonic, our class mascot.
Our class motto is........
In a blink of an eye we can reach the sky!
Everyone has settled brilliantly into Red Class.
Before the half term holiday we enjoyed a great day at
Sudbury Hall,
this was a brilliant introduction to out new topic.
How do I play with it?
Today Red Class have enjoyed Bikeability.
We discussed our topic
How do I play with it?
The children enjoyed talking and drawing pictures of things they already know and what they would like to find out.
Children In Need
2018
In Topic today we have been learning about different materials that toys are made from. These have included wood, plastic, metal and fabric. We have also discussed the properties of these materials.
Today we sorted materials by their properties.
Bikeability
We have enjoyed getting messy with paint. We used toys to print some wrapping paper for our class elf, Eric.
We have enjoyed making an observational drawing of teddy bears too.
In maths we have been learning about 3Dshapes and their properties. We sorted, named and went on a 3D shape hunt.
In English we have carried on learning about instructions. Today the children have enjoyed following a set of instructions to make their own elf.
The children have enjoyed playing games from around the world.
What makes the United Kingdom great?
Mr Simmons found some grey dust and rocks next to a large white envelope, he didn’t know who or what could have left it. As a class the children thought of and drew ideas of what they thought it could have been.
Inside the envelope was a story map and story of
George and the Dragon.
Was this a clue?
What makes the United Kingdom great?
Wow, we had a great afternoon sight seeing on board a plane! We travelled all over England looking at trees, fields, houses, towns, villages etc. We travelled over famous landmarks. We saw Angel of the North, Lake District, Peak District, Stonehenge and the White cliffs of Dover. After a safe flight we all arrived safely back on land.
Once back on land everyone enjoyed some traditional British food chips, scones and a good cup of tea!
Our focus this term in PE is gymnastics. We have been looking at different ways to travel, on, through, over and under different apparatus in the hall. We have also been securing the perfect dismount.
This week the children have enjoyed making their own crowns ready for a visit from Queen Elizabeth. The children decorated their crown pictures that represent the monarch and their very own sparkly jewels.
ARCHIVE 2017-18
This week we had a visitor in school, Olly from Zoolab.
He brought with him some creepy crawlies and small animals. We had a great time looking at and holding them.
Rumble in the Jungle
What an exciting start to our new topic. The children walked into chaos this morning in year 1. What or who could have made so much destruction?
The Great British Bake Off came to Red Class with a host of star bakers.
100% attendance achieved last half term.
Well Done!
We had a very special visitor today.
The children have all had a fabulous time designing and making their own Christmas sack.
Thank you for another charity shoe box.
On Monday afternoon we welcomed parents and grandparents into school to help their child.
Well done to all the children that didn't have any time off school last half term.
Thank you to the children in Red Class that have sent in a fabulous shoe box for the charity Operation Christmas Child.
In English this week the children have been learning about instructions. They have learned to follow them to make their very own teddy using split pins. The children have also ordered instructions and thought about which time adverbials they might use, first, next, then, after that and finally.
Here are our finished teddy bears.
We had a great time this morning, we welcomed Tom the Toy Man into school to show us and to talk about new and old toys.
Our new topic this term is,
How do I play with this?
Here are some the things the children would like to find out this half term.
Who made Buckaroo?
How do you make toys?
What toys are played with in different countries?
Were there plastic toys in the olden days?
How are power rangers made?
Who invented teddies?
The children enjoyed sharing their own toys from home with their friends.
The key question the children were to ask and find out were,
Why is this one your favourite?
Who gave it to you?
Do you think this toy is expensive?
What material is this toy made from?
How do you play with this toy?
We had a fabulous maths activity day yesterday inspired by the tv show
The Crystal Maze.
The children have a weekly music lesson with Mrs Haywood, they are learning to play the recorder as well as learning songs for Harvest.
The children used their senses to find things on a given checklist.
They used the power of touch, sight, smell, taste and sound.
In maths this week we have been counting in 2's. Some of us have managed to count in 2's up to 10 and some up to 20.
We have also had a maths problem to work out.
If I start at 2 and count in twos, I will say the number 9.
yes or no
We worked out the answer together.
Funny Bones
In English we have enjoyed listening to the Funny Bones story, we have acted out the story, sequenced events, written about the characters and thought of adjectives to describe them.
Our Topic this term is
Who do you think you are?
We have enjoyed getting to know each other and have been busy writing about the things we like, we tried really hard to remember where we must use capital letters, word spaces and full stops.
We also labeled body parts.
July 3rd- 7th 2017
Red class had a different start to the week when they went to meet their new year two teachers! Everybody had lots of fun and are all feeling excited about the fun that awaits them in year two, however it was nice to come back together as Red class. We are all now making the most of the next few weeks and enjoy our time left together in year one.
We have been thinking about the things we have enjoyed this year, the things we are good at and the things we would like to get even better at and writing this on our reports. They will be sent home on Monday.
Yes, you heard the children correctly, there is no homework for children now! Spellings next week are revision from the spellings that have been given over the year. There will still only be 8 words on the test, we will just take a small selection from across all the words learned.
We have made a start on some fantastic artwork which we will show you next week when it is complete!
Our stars of the week this week are:
Honey & Jude
Honey for her absolutely amazing progress in reading!
Jude for always trying his best with everything he is asked to do and generally just being a superstar!

19th-23rd June 2017
After a very busy few weeks we have had a nice week enjoying doing some preparation for next week's centenary celebrations. We are keeping it top secret until we display it next Friday!
We have been practising our multiplication and division this week by drawing arrays or sharing into groups. It's tricky stuff but we have been trying very hard and are getting better and better. As you know from this week's homework, we are going to be learning about money next week so any opportunities to talk about different coins will be very helpful to children in their upcoming maths lessons.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game - this game has lots of different options for sorting, ordering and counting coins and is tablet friendly.
Our stars of the week this week are:
Emily & Tristan
Emily for fantastic effort with her maths work this week.
Tristan for impressing Lee with his listening skills and teamwork in PE this week.
A reminder to parents to check children's book bags for important letters this week regarding next week's centenary celebrations. Thank you.

Well, what a week for Red Class! Firstly we must say an enormous .....
WELL DONE
to every single member of Red Class for the hard work and effort they have put into their phonics, not just this week but over the whole year. Because of this, all children managed to get fantastic results on their phonics screening with many children achieving their best score ever. So well done to everybody, we are very proud of you and hope you are very proud of yourselves too.
We have had a fun week learning about people who live in some of the hottest and coldest places on Earth. When learning about the Maasai tribes-people of Kenya we enjoyed making our own tribal necklaces.
Well done to all the children who received their 100% attendance award for last half term!
Our stars of the week this week are:
Joshua & Zachary
Joshua for fantastic work on arrays for multiplication this week
Zachary for always trying hard and putting lots of effort into everything he is asked to do.
A special mention to all children this week for their effort in their phonics screening. Well done to you all.
5th-9th June 2017
After a lovely week off we returned back to school for an exciting seaside themed day. Despite the nasty weather we had a fabulous time playing on our indoor beach, exploring in a rock pool and making ice creams.
Inspired by our seaside day, in English we have been writing some acrostic poems. All the children really worked hard on them, using lots of adjectives to make their poems interesting to read. They were amazing and even Mrs Baird was very impressed with our efforts. Well done everyone!
In maths this week we have been practising adding and subtracting, along with working on our number bonds to 10. We would like all children to know their number bonds to 10 off by heart by the time they go into year two so we will be doing lots of practise each day. If you would like to support your child with this there are some useful links below.

22nd-26th May 2017
Another busy week here in Red Class!
In maths we have been learning about dividing and using the ÷ symbol. We started by grouping objects together, using arrays and then solving simple division problems.
This was tricky stuff and all the children tried very hard.
To finish our topic 'Can I have Green Fingers?' we had a class quiz. This was good fun and the children came up with some interesting team names! All teams scored very well, showing they have learned lots this half term but in the end there was a three-way tie between the 'Jammy Dodgers', the 'Beautiful Bunnies' and the 'Glow in the Dark Fidget Spinners'! Well done everyone!
We have also been doing lots of work on our phonics ready for the phonics screening in June. If you would like to keep working on this during the holidays there are some useful links to some games below. Also, please keep reading with your child regularly as this has such an impact on their phonics and their writing too. Thank you for your support.
Our stars of the week this week are..
Libby & Ruby
for excellent effort in their writing and maths this week!
Well done to them both and to all of the children for their hard work this half term. We hope you all have a lovely holiday and we will see you on Tuesday 6th June. Don't forget your summer clothes for our day at Woodville-on-Sea!
15th-19th May 2017
We have had a lovely week in Red class this week!
On Monday we had open afternoon when some of our parents came in and helped us create some beautiful flower collages.
This week we have been designing and making our own fruit kebabs.
On Tuesday we carefully peeled, chopped and sliced different types of fruit and then tasted them all so we could choose which fruit to use.
On Wednesday we all made our own kebabs using our chosen fruit, we were all very pleased with the results!
Like all good product designers, we also evaluated our kebabs and decided that if we made them again we could add things like cherries, raspberries, marshmallows or chocolate to make them even more delicious.
Once we had made our kebabs we then worked hard to write a set of instructions so that other children in the school would be able to know how to make one too! As well as remembering to use imperative verbs, time connectives, full stops and capital letters (what a lot to remember!), we also have been trying hard to keep our handwriting lovely and neat too. Well done Red Class, you tried really hard.
In Maths we have been beginning to learn about multiplication! We have learned that multiplication is the same as repeated addition and have been using arrays to work out different multiplication number sentences. This is tricky stuff and the children have all put lots of effort into their work this week. Well done everyone!
Our stars of the week this week are..
Jack & Peyton
for writing excellent sets of instructions, remembering all the features!
Well done to them both and to the children who have completed their 100 challenge this week!
8th-12th May 2017
We have been very busy in Red Class this week!
On Monday we used the tiles we made using cardboard and string to make prints. They turned out very well!
We have also been looking at Vincent Van Gogh's sunflower paintings and have used them as inspiration to create our own sunflowers. We mixed different shades of yellow by adding red to yellow paint and also used collage techniques. Check back next week to see our sunflowers in a Van Gogh style display!
In Maths we have been practising finding one more and one less than numbers up to 100. Some children even needed a challenge to work with numbers beyond 100!
In English we have been reading and following instructions, looking at their features such as using bossy verbs and time connectives. Next week we will be making our own fruit kebab and writing instructions for how to make them.
On Friday we had an exciting afternoon when we completed our school 100 challenge. Red class completed the last leg of the 2170 laps of the Foundation Stage playground that were done by the whole of the Infants. Well done Red class and everyone who took part, you were superstars!
Our stars of the week this week were
Karson
for improved effort and putting his hand up more on the carpet
Caleb
for two weeks of good choices and much better behaviour.
Well done to you both- keep it up!
Reminder- parent's open afternoon on Monday 15th May, we hope to see you there.
2nd-5th May 2017
This week we have been busy with our topic 'Can I have green fingers?'
We set up an experiment to grow cress seeds in different conditions and, as you can see, we have had some interesting results!
The children had some good ideas about why the plants grown in pot 3 were the most healthy.
We worked in pairs to create some tiles using string and glue on cardboard. Our flower designs turned out beautifully.
Next week we will be using paint and printing with our tiles. Check back then to see how we get on!
In English we have been writing our own versions of 'The Enormous Turnip' with titles such as 'The Giant Carrot', 'The Large Onion' and 'The Gigantic Potato'! We tried hard to remember our capital letters, full stops and finger spaces and to use some adjectives and time connectives. We did very well!
Our stars of the week this week were...
Honey
for fantastic effort and improved confidence in writing
Blake
for amazing progress in his reading!
Well done to you both and also to the children who received their bookworm books this week! Keep up the good work!
