Welcome to Green Class
Our class teacher is
Miss Timbrell
Our class teaching assistant is Miss Devine
Hello my name is Cammile and I live in Green Class
'We are hungry for learning'
Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely summer.
We have really enjoyed our first week getting to know you all and have loved looking through your 'all about me' bags.
Our topic this term is 'Knowing me, knowing you' where the children will find out all about their bodies, their local environment and how to look after themselves.
Keep checking our page to see what we have been up to.
This term we are reading George and the Dragon. The children have used the story map to retell the story and have written what they like and don’t like about the story.
Some children have even made their own story maps at home and one child made posters about the dragon.
In maths we are looking at number bonds to 20. The children have been practising different way to add two groups of numbers together.
In topic pic the children went on an aeroplane around England. They took their passports and looked at some exciting landmarks. When they had landed the children went to an English restaurant to try some traditional foods.
Merry Christmas!
Miss Timbrell and I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!
See you in 2019 😊
Feeling Festive!
The children enjoyed their Christmas dinner, sharing crackers and jokes.
What do elves learn at school?
The elf-abet 😁.
Reading for pleasure.
The children enjoyed listening to Nora read by Evie.
Our class book this week is Dogger by Shirley Hughes
————————————————————————————————
The children have really enjoyed Bike Ability today and have shown the grown ups some really good skills. We can’t wait to see what you can do next week.
In Talk for Writing this week, we are looking at The Elves and the Shoemakers. The children are really good at using the actions to retell the story.
In maths this week the children are working hard at adding two numbers together by counting on from the biggest number.
Finally Miss Timbrell and I just want to say a big well done to Green Class for their super singing and beautiful sitting at the church for harvest.
————————————————————————————————————
The children had a lovely day at Sudbury Childhood Museum. It was really exciting to see so many toys and interesting to see the type of jobs children had to do a long time ago. Well done Green class you made Miss Timbrell and I very proud with how well behaved you all were.
——————————————————————————————————
We have had lots of fun this week and last week.
In English the children have been reading Elmer, the children have learnt the story using actions, retold the story through drama and role-play, and have drawn pictures for the beginning, middle and end.
In Maths the children have been investigating more and less, practising their number formation and counting forwards and backwards.
In topic the children have been learning about senses. They have enjoyed lots of fun activities like; cooking and tasting popcorn, drawing around each other, then labelling body parts and taste-testing food to see if it tasted bitter, sweet, sour or salty.
In other news the children were excited to watch Robin Hood, in our very own pop-up theatre.

COMPUTING
We had a fun time using a paint app on the iPads. We created a scene from a cold climate, adding animals that would live in this habitat.
A GREAT BIG WELL DONE TO ALL THESE CHILDEN
You have received your certificate and a feather for your owl for coming to school everyday last term.
KEEP IT UP EVERYONE
Spring Term
There’s a Rumble in the Jungle.
Fun at Twycross Zoo
We had a very busy day at the zoo. We saw some very interesting animals and had great fun jumping in all the puddles, as the weather wasn’t great but we didn’t let it spoil the day.
Spring Term
What makes Britain Great?
This term we will be finding out what makes Britain Great. We will be looking at how Great Britain is made up, finding out about interesting landmarks, who is the royal family and why are we proud to be British.
This is why Britain is great.
Our families working together to build some fabulous British landmarks.
Take a look at our amazing models.
Our Great British Bake Off
We began our new topic with two fun days baking and preparing for an afternoon tea party.
It was lovely to make cupcakes, then decorate them to share with our family.
Myleii was our British Bake Off winner, she wowed our very own Prue Leith with her unicorn design decorate cupcake.
Thank you to all our parents who joined us for our
Great British Bake Off
As you can see it was a fun filled afternoon drinking tea and eating cake.
Well done to all these children who achieved their 100% attendance certificate.
Autumn Term Two
How Do I Play With This?
We are very excited to begin our new topic this term. Christmas is fast approaching and we will be very busy practising for our school production, learning all about toys from the past and their properties and creating some lovely art work.
Fun at Christmas time
It was lovely to see everyone in Green Class having a delicious Christmas dinner.
Do you like our wonderful party hats?
We all enjoyed pulling our Christmas crackers and eating our turkey dinner. Our teachers also enjoyed eating their dinners with us today. It was so lovely for us all to sit together.
We hope you have all received the SANTA SACKS!
I hope you agree that they look amazing and hopefully will last for many years to come. Each year you will remember being in Green Class and the fun we had making them.
It was lovely to see some of our parents join us for our
open afternoon.
A huge big thank you for a fun filled afternoon.
A fun morning with Tom the toy man.
We were very excited to have our visitor today, he showed us how toys were played with hundreds of years ago. Did you know that the first toys were things that we could find outside around us? All you needed was imagination to make them fun. We soon realised that a simple stick could be so many things, a magic wand, a sword, or simple pencil to draw in sand.
As we explored all the toys, we soon found, that toys have changed so much. Now most toys are made from plastic and not wood or metal as they were when our grandparents were young.
Toys from home.
Some children came to school with their own toys to share with class friends.
Every child’s toy was very different and meant something special to them.
We enjoyed sharing and taking turns to play with each toy, respecting each other’s belongings.
In English this week we have been learning about how to order, write and follow instructions. We have learnt all about imperative verbs, BOSSY VERBS.
CUT
GLUE
FOLD
ADD
DRAW
FASTEN
Following a set of instructions we all made a split pin bear.
Autumn Term 1
Who do you think you are?
We have begun our very first topic in year one. This term we will be learning all about our bodies, the five senses and where we live.
This week has been very busy and creative.
In English we have been reading 'FUNNYBONES'
We have been studying the text very carefully, looking for capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Acting out the story with our friends was great fun. By the end of the week we were able to sequence pictures from the book independently.
Some of our independent tasks were quite challenging.
We used the IPads to draw our own skeletons,
and play dough to complete the missing parts.
During art we used a mirror to enable us to look closely at the features on our faces while painting self portraits. We used different thicknesses of brushes to paint the face and hair, then pens to add the finer details.
In Maths we have ordered, counted and written numbers.
Flynn was able to order his numbers to 20.
We carefully counted cubes to match our written numbers.
Finally at the end of the week we counted the dots, matching the written number to them.
Do I need my wellies today?
Our topic question this term is 'Do I need my wellies today?'
To open our topic we had a beach day, where we came in our beach clothes and bought along a bucket and spade. During the day we enjoyed taking part in some fun activities.
Also this week we have been learning about the seasons of the year and how this is affected by the Earth moving around the sun. We found this really interesting!
Fun Friday Maths!
This week we have been learning about Multiplication (lots of) and Division (divided by). Again this week we have been maths detectives searching for the important information in worded problems. We learnt that sometimes in the multiplication worded problems, they used key words that mean that we need to use the operation addition like the word 'altogether'.
However, from our previous knowledge we knew that we could use repeated addition and then turn the calculation into a 'lots of' calculation and we could also use an array to help us to work out the problem.
We also looked at division worded problems and we used both sharing and grouping to help us to work out the answers and to check our answers.
Also as part of our Fun Friday Maths we have been working out division worded problems with biscuits and sweets. We had so much fun, but we had to make sure that we shared the sweets fairly and equally. Please see the pictures below...
What was Woodville Infants like in the 1970's?
This week we have been looking at what Woodville Infant School was like 100 years ago, in preparation for the Centenary.
We are very lucky in Year 1 as we have a past student who used to come to Woodville Infant School when she was a little girl, Mrs Button.
Mrs Button kindly spoke to all of Year 1 about what school was like when she came to school, and we soon realised that the school was very different back then to what it is like now. Woodville Infants only had 5 classrooms and the toilets were outside! We found it very interesting!
Superb homework!
This week, in preparation for the centenary, we have asked children to research about what school was like 100 years ago and how it has changed.
We have been so impressed with Green class and their homework, we decided to share some of their research with the class.
Also, Wil's Grandma has also kindly brought in some objects from the past, such as an old milk bottle, a hot water bottle, an old iron and an old dolly, which was used to wash clothes. Wil enjoyed showing these to the class and the class found them very interesting
Dinner with Dad.
A great big thank you to all the Dad's and Grandad's who came to join us. We hope you all had an enjoyable time with your children in their classroom and playing outside in the sunshine.
Take a look at the photographs below.
Enjoying the beautiful weather.
We have been working so hard this week, we had time to go outside and enjoy story time. We shared a book
'The Whale and the Snail'
Fantastic Phonics
As you all may know this week we have had our Phonics Screening test. Children have worked extremely hard all year long on their phonics in class and at home. Thank you to all parents for you continued support at home it is greatly appreciated
As Miss Hardwick and Mrs Button have been so immensely proud of everyone in Green class for all of their hard work, we have had a cheeky treat of an ice lolly
Marvellous Maasai and Intriguing Inuits
This week we have been looking at hot and cold climates and who lives there.
First we looked at the Inuits who live in the Arctic. We learnt that the Inuits use animal fur and skin to keep them warm. We also learnt that the Inuit women like to sing using their throats. This is called throat singing.
Next, we looked at the Maasai tribe who live in Africa. We learnt that the Maasai tribe wear bright red clothes and lots of beads. They believe that the more beads that they wear the richer they look. We also learnt that Maasai men like to do a jumping dance and that they do this to show off to the women.
As part of this, we made our own Maasai inspired necklaces, please look at how rich we look!
Maths Detectives!
This week in Maths we have been detectives!
We have exploring worded problems, where we have had to detect the important information and then write the calculation in order to solve the problem. We had to decide carefully whether the worded problem was an addition or subtraction operation. However, we quickly noticed that the worded problems gave us some clues on what operation our calculation was going to be. For example we learnt that 'total', 'altogether' and 'more' all mean that we need to use the operation + (add).
We also learnt that the words 'left'and 'left over' are just some words in the worded problems that let us know that the operation for our calculation is going to be - (take away).
The Sun and the Earth
This week we have been learning about the Earth and how it rotates around the sun giving us night and day. This also effects the climate of different countries.
We also looked at the Earth in more detail and how we have a North Pole and South Pole which are very cold places, whereas the Equator experiences very hot weather.
100% Attendance Awards
WOW! All these children came to school everyday last term.
Can I have green fingers?
Our topic question this term is 'Can I have green fingers?'
To open our topic, we have been exploring the local environment. We have created a tally chart of all the different plants that we have seen on our walk and then we drew what we had seen.
Also this week, we have been learning about the different parts of a plant and what they are called. We found out that the roots of a plant, help the plant to stay up right and drink water and nutrients to make it grow.
We have been busy collaging the different parts of a plant and we then placed them together and labelled each part.
Please take a look at our pictures below.
Fun filled flowered afternoon!
Thank you to all of the parents that joined us on Monday for Open Afternoon, it was lovely to see you all learning alongside your children
Fruit Kebabs
This week we enjoyed exploring different fruits from around the world. We chopped and we tasted all of the fruits before deciding which ones to put on our fruit kebabs.
Have we got green fingers?
This week in English we have been looking at instructional texts, what they are, why we have them and the different features. There are lots of different instructional texts, such as recipes for baking cakes, instructions for following directions, instructions for building something etc.
From this, we had a set of instructions for 'How to plant a sunflower', except Miss Hardwick got them all muddled up, so Green Class had to sort them out for her.
We used our knowledge of the features of instructions and our reading skills to put them into the correct order.
We then followed the instructions and planted our very own sunflower.
1 Week Later
As you can see our sunflowers have started to grow. They have a stem and two leaves.
Handmade Prints
Over the past few weeks, we have been looking at the artist William Morris and his work.
We then created a William Morris inspired print.
First we had to create the printing tile. We used a cardboard square, in which we drew our own sunflower design. Then we glued on string carefully following our designs. We then waited for them to dry.
The following week, we then used our printing tiles to roll on paint to create our printed design.
Van Gogh's Sunflowers
We made our own flower heads by carefully arranging sunflower seeds in a pattern. This was a very time consuming and sticky job! But I hope you'll agree they look wonderful!
Amazing Artwork!
My goodness Green Class, you have shown off your fantastic artist skills!
This week we have been inspired by Van Gogh's Sunflowers. We have learnt new skills, such as how create shades using paint. We started with the base colour yellow, adding a little amount of red to create our sunflower heads.
When completed we came together as one with our individual sunflower heads, to create an amazing piece of artwork, that shows our own individuality.
Great reading at home!
Well done to all of our children that have been earning rewards of reading eggs at home! We are so very proud of you all! Keep up the hard work!
Also a big well done to Lewis who has completed Reading Eggs and is now on Reading Eggspress.
Below is a picture of just a few of those children.
The Enormous Turnip...
Over the last two weeks, we have been sharing the story 'The Enormous Turnip'. We have sequenced and role-played the story and we were fab!
From this, we ordered and wrote a sentence for each part of the story, thinking about our adjectives, time connectives and punctuation to make our writing more interesting. We have also learnt where and when to use an ellipsis...
After this, we then planned our own version of 'The Enormous Turnip'. We have had a lovely variety of stories, such as 'The Massive Orange'.
We are so proud of our work, please have a sneak peak!
An afternoon of fun on the iPads!
It took us a little while to all get logged in, but once we were, we all had a delightful afternoon on Reading Eggs.
Congratulations to all these children who have gained another feather for their 100% attendance!
What do seeds need to grow healthily?
This week we have completed a science experiment. We planted cress seeds in soil and then placed them in different conditions.
Over the following week, we will observe how they grow. From our previous knowledge of plants, most of us thought that Pot 3, which will be given water and light, will grow the most healthier cress.
Please come back and find out what we have observed
Do you think we were right?
The results are in!!
Our investigation has shown us a lot about what a plant requires to grow healthily. We found that the healthiest plant, was the plant that received both water and sunlight.
We found that Pot 2 was very interesting, as that had grown also, but as the noticed, they were all yellow and were not as healthy looking as plant Pot 3.
Quiet Critters! Shhh!
The Great British Bake Off!
We hope you all had a lot of fun eating them, as we had making them.
