Sports Day
The wet weather did not stop us enjoying sports day, we did some warm up exercises in class and then joined the rest of the school in the hall. We did some just dance dancing and some exercises to music. We then enjoyed party dances, especially baby shark.
We were all very hot and sweaty by the end, but it was great fun 😊
Zumba
We were very lucky to have a Zumba session on Thursday, we danced and sang and enjoyed learning some great Zumba dances to really fun music. It was so much fun 😀
We have been learning all about pirate life at sea and we have learnt about the food and drink they had on board their journeys. We found out that their fresh water would turn slimy after a while, so they added lemon and ginger to make it taste better. We made ‘pirate grog’ to taste and did a pirate toast before we drank it! Most children said it was yummy! We also discovered that they used herbs and spices to flavour meat which was going off. We used some spices on cocktail sausages to try. We ate ‘hard tack’ biscuits and we tried mango and pineapple. We learnt that these grow on trees in far away countries.
We also had a visit from Amy, who told us all about her running, training and medals, she then did a warm up session with us and some relay races.
Summer term 2
Welcome back Gold Class to our last term together. We started off the week with a visit from captain Steve,
Captain Steve came to school and invited us on an adventure with him to find the gold. We met Beaky, his feathered friend, and then we dressed up as pirates and climbed aboard the ship, we had to haul up the anchor and set sail, to find the treasure using Captain Steve's treasure map. Unfortunately, we got lost and landed on the island of Polynesia. We danced with grass skirts and flower necklaces. After, we set off again but landed in the Antarctica, we had snow ball fights and skated with the penguins.
Back out in the ocean again we hit a storm and was blown from one side to the other, it blew us all the way to the volcano. We had a great time watching the volcano erupting.
After we had cleaned the decks and flew with parrots and swam with dolphins and rowed our boats, we finally found the treasure island, we had to follow the code and dig and we found a treasure chest. It was full of gold and jewels and sparkling treasure.
We had such fun on our pirate adventure.
So far, in our pirate topic, we've learnt all about pirates and pirate ships, we've looked at wanted posters and learnt lots of new topic words. We have shared and added our pirate coins and treasure.
We've had pirate story maps wash up in bottles, and the story has been washed away, so we had to become Authors and write our own.
We have looked at floating and sinking and enjoyed using the junk box modelling to make our own pirate ships.
Our role play is now the beach and the children are enjoying playing at the beach.
Summer term
Welcome back Gold Class, we hope you had a great Easter holiday. This term we are looking at growth and planting.
We had a great surprise when we came back, as Mrs Taylor's bean plant she planted at the adventure farm had accidentally been knocked over, and during the holidays a giant beanstalk had grown!!
We have learnt a brand new story map of Jack and the Beanstalk and planted our own beans. Our role play has also been transformed into a garden centre.
We are very excited to have started our forest schools now and can't wait to learn lots of new exciting things this term.
Spring term 2019
What a busy last week of term we have had. First, we had our trip to the farm on Monday. On Tuesday, we got to hold our chicks and name them, April, Chase, Kevin, Betty and Sunshine. We have learnt about the Easter story, and tried hot cross buns. On Friday, the Easter bunny came to visit us with a chocolate egg, and then in the afternoon we were able to watch a production of 'The secret garden'. We also had to say goodbye to the chicks, as they have grown too big now and need to be able run around on the farm.
We've had a super term, we have all worked so hard and we are very proud to say everybody got a behaviour certificate as no-one has been on the sad cloud 😀.
We hope you all have a super 🐣 Easter.
After patiently waiting 21 days, our eggs began to hatch, we were able to watch their little beaks poking out from the holes and finally push out. At first, they were very tired and wet and sleepy so they stayed in the incubator. After 48 hours they were able to come out and explore. They love having cuddles and joining in with phonics and singing.
The first chick was named April, Gold Class chose the name Chase, pink Class chose Kevin. Silver Class chose the name Betty and then out of all the other names the last one was called Sunshine. ☀️
Our day at the farm
We had a wonderful day at the farm, we enjoyed the coach trip there, singing and looking at what we could see. After, when we had arrived at the farm and put our bags away, we went to do some planting in the potting shed. We were able to plant cress seeds or bean seeds and then we went on a hunt around the garden to find which animals are pests or friends.
Next, we went to the lambing shed we saw baby lambs and goats. Then we had a chance to play in the sandpit and diggers.
Afterwards, we went on a bumpy tractor ride around the paddocks, we had to shout when we saw scarecrows. It was lots of fun.
Then it was time for lunch, the children had worked up quite an appetite.
After, we went to look at the pigs, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens etc in the barn.
Finally, we got to play on the soft play, the rainbow and blue slide were particularly popular.
Then we returned to the coach, it was a much quieter journey on the way home!
All the children were brilliantly behaved all day, and a pleasure to take to the farm.
Books with Mum
Today, we celebrated Mother's Day by inviting our Mummies, Grandparents, and even a few Daddies into Class to read with us. We started by sharing our story maps of supertato and little red hen. It was great to see so many parents joining in, the evil laughs were very convincing.
The children then gave their parents a cake and read stories together, they also made flower bouquets and bookmarks. It was lovely to see so many parents in school.
Special visitors
Today, we had some very special visitors come to see us. We were visited by two chickens, Silky and Wilma. We learnt about which animals hatch from eggs and we now have our very own incubator and eggs. Please keep a look out over the next few weeks for our chicks hatching, then we get to name them and hold them. It's very eggciting 🐥
Laser tag
On Monday 11th, we had a lovely surprise, Mr Warren came to do P.E with us and we had a great session playing laser tag. He showed us the rules and equipment and then we got into teams, we then had to hide behind our bases and the lights went off. We had such fun, shooting at the other team, hiding behind, under and sneaking around the bases.
Everyone wanted another turn because it was so much fun 😀
This term our topic is all about ANIMALS
This term we are learning all about animals. We have looked at their skin, feathers or fur and their markings. We've looked at habitats and where we might find different animals living. We've looked at animals that camouflage too.
we've learnt the story maps of little red hen and we helped to make her some bread. Also we've learnt the story map of stuck in the mud.
Pancake day
Gold Class enjoyed trying pancakes on pancake day, they were able to choose a topping and then got to try it. We hope you all enjoyed pancake day 🥞
Chinese New Year
Today we celebrated Chinese New Year, we learnt about the Chinese calendar animals and found out 2019 is the year of the pig and the children are either snakes or horses. We made a dragon ready for our parade, we played musical instruments ready for a parade. We chopped and prepared stir fry and then got to eat it with Prawn crackers. We had a try with chopsticks and pasta on the tuff spot. The children made money wallets and pigs and coloured in the animals from the story. They learnt the rat won the rat and cat lost. We made lanterns and Chinese New Year cards. We've had a great day learning all about Chinese New Year.
