This week in Maths we have been learning about fractions. Today we have been looking at the fraction HALF. Our first task was to look at cutting a cake into half. As it was Mrs Buttons birthday she had brought in cake for the teachers so we used a piece for our activity.
Do you think that we cut the cake into equal halves?
Spring Term 1
Today we are learning all about 3D shapes and their properties. We have created a 3D shape using blu-tac and woodens sticks. What shape have we created?
Can you create some different 3D shapes at home?
Remember to use the correct language for 3D shapes,
Bring your shapes to school or take a photograph and you will earn yourself a house point.
THE BEE FARMER
This week we had a visit from Dave the Bee Farmer. He told us lots of facts about bees. Did you know,
There are two categories of bees, the honey bee and the bumble bee.
In the Uk there is only1 species of honey bee and 24 species of bumble bee.
There is only 1 queen bee in each colony and she lays 2000 eggs each day, while the other bees have different jobs throughout there life span.
Ask your children and I’m sure they will be able to tell you many more interesting facts about bees.
An author came to visit.
Rachel Greaves who is an author of children’s books came to Yellow Class to work with the children. We acted out one of her stories, it was great fun and it helped us to remember the story and increased our vocabulary.
