Last week Flynn took home Monty the Maths Monkey and had lots of fun with him, doing lots of Maths and Reading! Georgia took home Remi the Reading Rabbit and read lots of different books with Remi. They both did a fantastic job at sharing what they did with their friends in Yellow Class.
We had a wonderful day out on Tuesday, visiting Derby County Football stadium at Pride Park in Derby.
We had a tour around the stadium and grounds and found some very interesting facts. Looking at the differences between the home and away changing rooms, then walking down the tunnel onto the pitch. We were able to sit in the dug out and Jessica sat in Frank Lampard’s seat. Later we met Rammie the Derby County mascot before entering a colouring competition to win two tickets for a future match.
To start off a new term in English we have begun to use our imaginations to think about our wishes. We started by watching a clip from The film Mary Poppins. We watched the part where Mary, Bert and the children jump into the chalk drawings that Bert drew onto the pavement of the places he wished he could visit.
In class the children were given their own piece of magic chalk and a large sheet of black sugar paper. They were asked to use their imaginations and draw somewhere they wished they could go.
Remi the reading rabbit had a very relaxing time with Jessica at her house. Jessica read books to her mums and Remi.
Monty the maths monkey had an interesting time at Ashton’s house, he was helping Ashton and his dad measure for some new shelves in their house. I hope it went well Ashton!
A great big well done to all these children for their hard work on
Reading Eggs and Mathletics.
Monty the Maths Monkey and Remi the Reading Rabbit went home with Freya and Stanley last week, for their very first home visit. Look how busy they were, I think they all had a fantastic fun filled week.
Why are seagulls not extinct?
We have have started our non fiction text, to help us with our writing we are building a picture map to help us remember the facts.
The pictures below show us using actions as we read the map.
During guided reading we shared books with our partners. We used our new book corner to find books that our friend would be interested in. Then we began to create our very own story using ideas from the books that we had shared.
A fun start to the beginning of the week. Take a look at our amazing fish we have created. We are going to use these to inspire us with our writing. Can you think of some of the adjectives we will use?
World Book Day
Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely Christmas and ready to start our new topic-From filed to fork. During this topic we will be working together to revamp our school garden. Each week we will have Welly Wednesday where we will spend time preparing the beds, growing plants and making the courtyard look wonderful.
On Monday we visited Beau Barberista to have a demonstration on how a smoothie is made. The manager was very kind and made a smoothie for us to try. He then set us a challenge to create our own smoothie. Judging will take place on Wednesday 13th December and the winning one will be available to purchase in the shop.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for open afternoon. We had a busy afternoon making our sports tops. They look great!
Yellow Class have been busy thinking about different sentences in English this week. We now know how to write a question, exclamation and command sentence.
In Topic we have been thinking about the different materials the school is made of. We went outside and took rubbings of slate, bricks and glass. We then used these rubbings to create a collage picture of the school.
Yellow Class have made a great start back to the school year.
Our topic is:
Can we go back to the future?
We have enjoyed looking at maps of the school, learning about question and exclamation sentences in English and looking at place value in maths.
